Fruit `A La Mode

1 20-ounce can frozen, pitted, tart red cherries, thawed
1 10-ounce package frozen peach slices, thawed
1/4 cup sugar
4 inches stick cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon whole cloves
  Few drops of red food coloring
1 pint vanilla ice cream
  Makes: 6 servings

1. Drain thawed fruits, reserving syrups. In saucepan combine reserved syrups, sugar, stick cinnamon, whole cloves, and food coloring. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes; strain,. Place cherries and peach slices in medium-sized bowl; pour syrup mixture over fruit. Cover and chill for 6 to 24 hours; still fruit occasionally.

Spoon fruit mixture into individual dessert dishes; top each serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
